February 22, 2012 – We’ve all heard that having cosmetic or plastic surgery can make you look years younger. But is that really true? Can we ever really turn back the clock and look look like we did a few birthdays ago? Well according to a recent survey from the University of Toronto and NorthShore University Health System, it’s possible.

The study was published in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery and stated that when shown before and after pictures of cosmetic surgery patients, most surveyed thought the patients looked about 1.7 years younger than their actual age before surgery but looked as much as 8.5 years younger than their actual age after surgery.

The study involved 60 plastic surgery patients that ranged in age from 45 to 72. The people asked to guess the ages were a group of 40 medical students, according to the report. Those who had a face lift and neck lift were guessed to be 5.7 years younger than their actual age.

The patients who had a face lift, neck lift and eyelid lift were thought to be 7.5 years younger than their actual age.

And the patients who had a face lift, neck lift, eyelid lift and forehead lift looked 8.5 years younger than their actual age, according to the students participating in the study.

We may not really be able to turn back the clock physically, but having facial plastic surgery does seem to make us appear younger than we are.
