November 4, 2015 – Botox injections topped the list of minimally-invasive cosmetic

surgery procedures in the US in 2014 with nearly 6.7 million procedures performed,

according to the annual American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) report. If you’re

thinking about wrinkle reduction and having Botox injections, the first question you

may have is how long the beneficial effects last. The answer is up to four months,

according to the results of a study released in the journal of Facial Plastic Surgery

JAMA.

As we age, our skin loses its elasticity and pliability. Botox injections relax

muscles that cause facial wrinkles and help restore some of the skin’s diminished

elasticity and pliability. The study followed 43 women who were around 55 years old

who opted for botox injections to treat wrinkles around their eyes and forehead.

According to the study, women were evaluated after 2 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 16

weeks. Not only were the wrinkles reduced, but the Botox injections also improved skin

elasticity and pliability. The study also noted that the Botox injections also seemed

to reverse skin damage from ultraviolet rays (sun damage).

All of these benefits of Botox injections lasted on average 4 months. After that, the

skin of the women in the study returned to its previous state.

If you’re looking for a minimally-invasive cosmetic surgery procedure for facial

wrinkles, this new study about Botox injections gives you a good, fact-based amount of

time that you can expect the benefits to last. Every procedure and patient will vary,

but on average wrinkles can be reduced for up to four months with Botox injections.
