June 12, 2012 – We know that the 40 to 54 year old age bracket had the most cosmetic surgery procedures (6.4 million or 48% of the total) in 2011, according to the most recent statistics from the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. What we didn’t talk about was which procedures were the most popular among that age group. Those Americans had 525,000 surgical procedures and 5.9 million minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures in last year, so keep reading to find out what the top five were in each category.

The number one invasive cosmetic surgery procedure for the 40 to 54 year old age group was breast augmentation with 90,430 augmentations in 2011. That was a 9% increase over the number of breast augmentations performed in 2010.

Eyelid surgery came in as the second most popular cosmetic surgery in the 40 to 54 age group with 82,380 procedures but a 7% drop from 2010.

Liposuction was number three with 81,611 procedures in 2010 and just a 1% increase over the number of procedures performed in 2010.

Rhinoplasty or nose reshaping came in at number four with 50,716 procedures and a 7% decline from 2010.

And the number five most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in 2011 for Americans aged 40 to 54 was a tummy tuck. There were 46,778 tummy tucks performed in that age group last year, which was a 1% drop from 2010.

As for the top five minimally invasive cosmetic surgery procedures in the 40 to 54 age group last year, Botox took the number one spot with about 3.2 million procedures performed and a 5% increase over 2010.

Chemical peels ranked number two with 479,254 procedures but a 5% decline over the 2010 totals.

Laser hair removal was pretty popular at the number three spot with 389,941 procedures in 2011 and a 21% jump from 2010.

Microdermabrasion came in at number four with 387,102 and a 10% increase from the number of procedures performed in 2010.

And while soft tissue fillers were one of the fastest growing categories of cosmetic surgery in 2011, they slid in at number five in the 40 to 54 age group with 944,060 procedures and a 10% jump from the total in 2010.

A few cosmetic surgery procedures (like chin augmentation) that were popular across the board when you add up every age bracket didn’t make it into the 40 to 54 age group’s top five. But it is interesting to see what procedures are most commonly performed on the age group that opted for the most cosmetic surgery procedures in 2011.
