Chicago Breast Augmentation
If you are considering having Chicago breast augmentation performed, there are several different types of implants, procedures and options available. Breast augmentation is one of the top five most common cosmetic surgeries in the United States, and is often in the number one spot according to the American Society of Plastic Surgery.
How To Find Good Surgeon?
Finding a good surgeon to perform your Chicago breast augmentation shouldnít be very hard, as there are many who specialize in this form of plastic surgery. You can easily check to see that the surgeon is board certified and ask how long he or she has practiced and how many breast augmentations they have performed. Another great way to find a good surgeon is to speak with other women who have had the procedure done and are very satisfied with the results.
Insurance & Breast Augmentation
There are varying reasons to have this procedure performed, both cosmetic and medical, so your health insurance may or may not cover the cost. If the breast augmentation is for reconstructive purposes after an accident or breast cancer, most likely your insurance will pay for it. If it is for personal reasons of appearance to increase size or correct unevenly sized breasts, then you will probably have to pay out of pocket. Itís a good idea to speak with both your health insurance company as well as your surgeon about the cost of the procedure and how much you can expect to pay.
Types Of Implants & Incisions
Probably the first thing to consider is what type of implant you want to have inserted. You can choose not only different sizes but also shapes and textures. There are saline implants and silicone implants. The saline implants are the older of the two, and some consider them safer because if a rupture should occur, the only leakage would be the sterile saline or salt water solution. Saline implants are also able to be inserted collapsed, which means a smaller incision and even a belly button or transumbilical incision. The saline implants are then filled via a tube that is removed after the procedure. Despite the advantages, some consider saline implants to look and feel less natural than silicone implants.
Silicone & Saline Implants
Silicone implants have been improved over the years and pose much less of a threat of leakage than they first did. The silicone implants are widely preferred because of their tendency to resemble natural breasts better than saline implants. Silicone implants are inserted already filled, so the incision sites are different and larger than saline implants. Silicone implants are currently the most widely used here in the United States.
Inframammary & Below The Breast Incision
With both silicone and saline implants, an inframammary or below the breast incision can be made. This location is used most often and the scars left will usually be covered by a bikini top. Fading of the scars will gradually happen over the next few months after the surgery is performed.
Around & Below The Areola Incision
Another incision site can be around or below the areola. This is called periareolar. Saline implants often fit better than silicone implants from this site because they can be folded up and inserted. The scars aren't as visible from this method of breast augmentation.
Transaxillary & Armpit Incision
A transaxillary or armpit incision is another approach to inserting breast implants. Many women prefer this location because scars aren't readily visible from there. Both saline and silicone implants can be inserted from this location. An armpit incision sometimes makes placing the breast implants a little more challenging for the surgeon, but it certainly can be accomplished successfully by an experienced doctor.
How Long Breast Augmentation Procedure Last?
Whichever type of implant or incision site you pick, the entire breast augmentation procedure should only last at most a couple of hours. You will be able to go home the same day barring any complications, which are rare. Lifting or a lot of exercise is not allowed for about a week, and pain, swelling and some discomfort may be experienced for a brief time afterwards.
The visible results of breast augmentation are seen immediately. Itís important for women to be comfortable enough with their surgeon to be able to discuss what they hope the results will look like realistically. A good surgeon will be able to advise you on which type and size of implant would work best with your body type or physical build.
