Chicago Face Lift

There are several different types of Chicago Face Lifts available, from the traditional surgical methods to non-surgical face lifts.  Which one you choose depends upon what results you expect to obtain from the procedure and other factors such as your skin type, amount of wrinkles and overall physical health.  Once you have an idea of what you'd like to achieve by having a face lift you can then start narrowing down  your search for a qualified surgeon who can perform the procedure and help you decide which face lift is best for you.

Types Of Facelift

No matter what type of Chicago face lift you decide to have performed, unless it is for reconstructive purposes it probably wonít be covered by your insurance.  Face lifts are generally considered elective or cosmetic, so discussing the expected costs of the procedure with your surgeon is something you need to be comfortable doing.

Thermage & ThermaCool

A very simple and fairly new type of non-surgical face lift is called the Thermage or ThermaCool method.  Many experts recommend this method for younger patients and is used for smoothing out wrinkles that aren't too deep.  It uses a type of cream that numbs along with radio frequency treatments.

Threadlift & Featherlift Procedure

In a threadlift or featherlift procedure, excess skin on face that sags is tightened up by using a local anesthetic for the area and surgical thread to pull up and stitch the skin back into place. No skin is actually cut away or removed in this procedure.

Botox is another form of non-surgical face lift.  Injections in the facial and brow area can eliminate fine wrinkles and lines and can be repeated every few months.

Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System

One of the most commonly preformed face lift is the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS).  With this procedure, the surgeon will make an incision from the temple above your hairline and go down the side along and then below and behind your ears.  The cut is deep enough so that both the skin and tissue beneath are pulled up and tightened with any excess removed.  Everything is then stitched back into place.

Deep Plane Face Lift

With a deep plane face lift the incisions are made in the same places as the SMAS lift but the cuts go even deeper and involve more tissue and muscle.  This allows for more tightening and reshaping to be done and then the skin is repositioned and everything sutured back into place.
A deep plane face lift can last for as long as ten to fifteen years before affects of aging are noticed again.

Mini Face Lift, Short Scar Face Lifts & MACS

There are also mini face lifts, short scar face lifts and MACS or minimal access cranial suspension lifts.  In these procedures the surgical incision is much shorter, usually starting at the patient's temple and extending down in front of the ear but not below or behind it.  The surgeon will then tighten the skin and tissue and suture them  into place.

Mid Face Lift, Short Scar Face Lifts & MACS

A mid face lift is used to improve the looks of patients with laugh lines around the mouth and sagging cheeks.  The incisions are made in the hairline and inside the patient's mouth.  As with the other face lift procedures, the skin and tissues are tightened and repositioned before suturing back.

Endoscopic Face Lift

A more high tech face lift is the endoscopic face lift.  This method is good for younger patients who don't have a lot of sagging skin or deep wrinkles.  Only a few small incisions are made in the hairline or behind the ears and the endoscope is inserted, allowing the surgeon to see exactly where to tighten and remove skin and tissue.  This method can be performed on an outpatient basis, unlike the other surgical face lifts, and bruising, swelling and recovery time are greatly reduced.

Risk Factors

As with any type of invasive surgery, face lifts carry some risk factors.  There is always some swelling, bruising and recovery time needed, and depending on which type of face lift you have and how deep the incisions are the more time you will need to spend in the hospital.  The positive effects of a face lift arenít seen immediately because of the expected swelling and bruising after the procedure, but results should be apparent in anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.  And while you canít turn back the clock and become younger, you can eliminate some of the effects of aging such as wrinkles, fine lines and excess skin.
