January 23, 2013 – Advances in technology have had a big impact on many aspects of cosmetic surgery. Techniques have improved, there are better and more specialized surgical tools and there is new computer imaging that lets you see how your results will look before you even have a procedure. But what if there was an app or computer imaging program that let you see the negative impact of not taking care of your skin and health? Would you be interested in seeing how your appearance can be affected by drinking alcohol? Well a new app can show you just that, according to a recent article in the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) newsletter.

This new app is called the Drinking Mirror and it has been put out by the Scottish government, according to the article. You upload a picture of yourself and fill in how many drinks you have on average per week and in return you get an image of how too much alcohol can adversely affect your appearance.

The article goes on to say that users often see themselves with a weight gain, more facial wrinkles, redness of the face, bloating and dark under eye circles. This is because too much alcohol can contribute to weight gain, aging earlier and promotes wrinkles because it can dry the skin.

The app is probably more intended to discourage over-indulging, but it could also be an interesting tool to see how lifestyle can affect your appearance, for good or bad. Drinking isn’t the only thing that can have a negative impact on your appearance, and the normal aging process combined with sun damage can cause wrinkles and lines to form. Of course there is the ever popular Botox for those who want a minimally-invasive cosmetic surgery treatment for facial wrinkles. And a traditional facelift can address several aging issues and provide a longer-lasting facial rejuvenation when performed by a board-certified cosmetic surgeon.
